About the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA):

Established in 1976, the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) is a premier institute of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, for research and capacity building for the urban sector in India. NIUA’s broad objective is to bridge the gap between research and practice on issues related to urbanization. For more than 40 years now, NIUA  has been the vanguard for contributing to and building the urban narrative for a fast-evolving urban India. Job Summary:

The Accounts Assistant will provide support to the finance team by managing daily accounting tasks. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in accounting principles, able to work comfortably with numbers and possess excellent attention to detail. The goal is to contribute to the overall efficient operation of the department and help the organization achieve its financial objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the maintenance of general ledgers and ensure accuracy in accounting entries.
  • Handle accounts payable and receivable, including processing invoices, verifying transaction details, and preparing payments.
  • Reconcile bank statements and ensure financial data is complete and accurate.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports.
  • Support the Senior Accounts Officer in the preparation of annual financial statements.
  • Manage petty cash transactions and maintain appropriate records.
  • Assist in financial audits by providing necessary documentation and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and statutory regulations.
  • Maintain proper documentation and filing of financial records.
  • Preparation of Financial statement, reporting, budgeting and etc.
  • Support in Payroll
  • Handle other administrative duties related to finance and accounting as required.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Accounting, or related field.
  • At least 5-6 years of experience in an accounting or finance-related role.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Tally, QuickBooks, or similar tools).
  • Strong knowledge of MS Excel and other MS Office applications.
  • Basic understanding of financial regulations and statutory requirements.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong numerical ability and analytical mindset.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in working with government organizations, NGOs, or urban sector initiatives.
  • Familiarity with government accounting standards and practices.
  • Knowledge of GST, TDS, and other tax-related matters.

Key Competencies:

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information with discretion.
