About the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA):

About the Sustainable Cities Integrated Approach Pilot in India (SCIAP):

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is implementing the Sustainable Cities Integrated Approach Pilot in India (SCIAP) along with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). The core objective is to build resilience in five pilot cities – Jaipur, Bhopal, Mysore, Vijayawada and Guntur – by integrating sustainability concepts into urban planning and management strategies. The project comprises three components: Component 1 - Sustainable urban planning and management; Component 2 - Technology and investment support for innovative, low carbon pilot projects in 5 target cities; and Component 3 - Partnerships, knowledge management and capacity building.

With support from UNIDO and under the guidance of MoHUA, National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) is undertaking the implementation of Component 3 – Partnerships, Knowledge Management and Capacity Building mentioned in the preceding section that aims to develop partnerships with private, public and civil society organizations for implementing initiatives for sustainable cities and building capacity of major players and stakeholders for better governance and project implementation in cities; sharing of experiences among Indian cities, and between Indian cities and those abroad which have advanced in building sustainable cities and also those which can learn from the Indian experience; this is also related to the Global Platform for Sustainable Cities set up under the global sustainable cities program of the GEF.

Responsibilities:

  • The key responsibilities of the Junior Research Associate, under overall guidance and supervision of the Program Lead will include, but not be limited to:
  • Support stakeholder management / processes and coordination with ULBs
  • Participate in organizing and management of capacity building workshops and related activities.
  • Contribute in writing reports, articles, brochures, newsletters, and updates of the website, and social media
  • Provide logistics support (as and when required)
  • Management of day to day activities of the project
  • Qualification, Experience and Competencies

Qualification:

  • Post Graduate qualification in Planning/Developmental studies/Environmental Science and management from a reputed University / Institute
  • 0- 2 years of experience, preferably in the WASH sector
  • Ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders including government officials, private sector, civil society institutions and research institutions
  • Proficient working knowledge of MS Office
  • Excellent written and verbal communications and presentation skills
  • Drive, Commitment and Ownership with teamwork and collaboration

Desirable:

  • Prior experience of working in the WASH sector
  • Understanding of inter disciplinary research approaches
  • Early joining is an added advantage

Location: Based out of the office at NIUA, New Delhi.
