About the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA):

Established in 1976, the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) is a premier institute of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, for research and capacity building for the urban sector in India. NIUA’s broad objective is to bridge the gap between research and practice on issues related to urbanization. For more than 40 years now, NIUA has been the vanguard for contributing to and building the urban narrative for a fast evolving urban India. The Institute has been actively working on bringing forth key areas of concern for urban India in order to build the urban discourse at various urban scales. It has utilized its competencies in research, knowledge management, policy advocacy and capacity building to address urban challenges and continuously striving to develop sustainable, inclusive and productive urban ecosystems in the country. It has emerged as a thought leader and knowledge hub for urban development in India and is sought after by both Indian and international organizations for collaborations and partnerships in India’s  urban transforming journey. Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as a primary liaison between the Director and government officials, partner institutions, and NIUA.
  2. Ensure seamless communication, and smooth coordination with the Director’s Office team.
  3. Serve as the nodal point for coordination between the Director’s Office and internal departments, as well as with MoHUA.
  4. Draft and refine official correspondence, briefing notes, and institutional documents from program staff.
  5. Consolidate inputs from program teams and experts to prepare timely analyses, options, and recommendations.
  6. Provide high-quality briefing materials to aid informed decision-making.
  7. Review key documents requiring the Director’s signature or approval.
  8. Ensure clarity, accuracy, and adherence to institutional standards before submission.
  9. Draft and refine correspondence, briefing notes, and institutional documents in line with NIUA’s voice.
  10. Incorporate research and program team inputs as needed.
  11. Prepare agendas, background briefs, talking points, and presentations for the Director’s engagements.
  12. Collaborate with design, research, and communication teams for high-quality outputs.
  13. Assist the Director in planning, executing, and monitoring projects.
  14. Oversee logistics, ensure timely follow-ups, and track completion of delegated actions for all Director’s engagement.
  15. Coordinate preparation of reports, submissions, and updates for MoHUA and state governments.

Qualifications:

Post graduate degree in Master’s in planning, urban management, public policy, or any other related fields.

Experience:

  1. Minimum 2-4 years of work experience in urban sector
  2. Working experience in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  3. Should have excellent communication and writing skills
