Job Description

1. Project Overview: 

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Coordinator - Urban Planning to serve as the technical specialist for integrated land-use, spatial development planning projects and other related urban planning projects. With a minimum of 25 years of professional experience in urban and regional planning, the candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the long-term spatial, transport, and environmental development plans of the metropolitan regions and cities.

2. Key Responsibilities

• Spatial Planning and Technical Advisory

• Lead the preparation and review of integrated spatial development plans, master plans, regional plans, development plans, and local area plans
• Formulate long-term spatial development strategies by integrating sectoral plans relating to housing, transport, infrastructure, environment, economic development, climate resilience and tourism
• Provide technical advice on zoning regulations, development control regulations, transit-oriented development and urban reforms
• Review technical reports, planning documents, policy papers, concept notes, and planning guidelines
• Advise on the application of geospatial technologies, remote sensing, drone/UAV-based surveys, and spatial databases for urban planning
• Promote adoption of digital planning tools and urban information systems in the domain of urban planning

• Project Coordination

• Work closely with infrastructure, transport, environment, and economic experts to synthesise sectoral inputs into a cohesive plan
• Advise on surveys, data collection, and demand assessments to ensure accuracy and reliability
• Coordinate with stakeholders for regular project operations
• Institutional Support - assist in responding to the observation of standing committee, audit observations, RTI matters and other government communications related to urban planning

• Stakeholder Engagement

• Moderate smaller working group meetings and brainstorming sessions on arriving at planning decisions
• Support in multi-stakeholder consultations, capturing citizen aspirations, market trends and institutional perspectives
• Liaise with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, State Governments, Urban Local Bodies, Development Authorities, and other public agencies.
• Coordinate with national and international institutions, technical experts, and development partners.
• Represent the organization in technical committees, review meetings, workshops, and conferences

3. Qualifications & Experience

• Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, or related discipline
• At least 25 years of professional experience in urban and regional planning
• Proven expertise in land use planning, zoning and statutory plan preparation
• Strong knowledge of Indian planning laws, building bye-laws, regional plan frameworks, urban reforms and municipal governance structures
